Dr. Joe McKeever, Director of Missions
Staff
Dr. Joe McKeever is Director of Missions for the 135 churches and missions that make up the Baptist Association of Greater New Orleans. He pastored for 42 years (including the First Baptist Churches of Columbus, MS, Charlotte, NC, and Kenner, LA) and came to this position in May, 2004. (These days, since Katrina, the association has lost temporarily or permanently, almost half its churches. Thousands of volunteers from throughout the country are helping the city to recover and the churches to rebuild. The process will take many years, as the devastation was so massive.)
Joe is married to Margaret Henderson of Birmingham AL, and they are parents of sons Neil and Marty and daughter Carla; grandparents of eight of the most wonderful kids in the world.
Joe has degrees from Birmingham-Southern College (history), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Th.M. in church history and D.Min. in evangelism).
Over the years, Joe has written hundreds of magazine articles, and with his cartoons has illustrated a dozen books, designed covers for many, and produced 8 volumes of his own cartoons which sold a total of 300,000 copies (all out of print now).
Joe's life text is Job 4:4, "Your words have stood men on their feet." That's his goal for both his preaching and his writing.

My wife Elaine and I were appointed as Church Planting Missionaries to the Baptist Association of Greater New Orleans in 1999 by the North American Mission Board. Sharing responsibilities to BAGNO, Louisiana Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board, it has truly been a joy and privilege to serve God in this position. My wife and I both grew up in Walker, LA, about ninety miles Northwest of New Orleans and had lived in New Orleans on two different occasions prior to coming to the city. We have a son, daughter, son-in-law and three grand children. I am a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I served in the local church in the area of Christian education prior to coming into Association and State work.
My responsibilities encompass four areas: Planting New Churches, Developing New Churches, Coordinating and Training Disaster Relief Volunteers and Purchasing Property and Coordinating Construction for Mission Churches.
